Hi! Welcome to my first weekly {ish} 😛 Book Review Blog Post! Self-care for me lately has looked like incorporating daily reading into my routine. As a kid, I read for HOURS each day and I feel like it really helped my ability to retain knowledge, and memorize and all around just be a smarter and more creative human. It was such an integral part of my childhood and some of my happiest moments in my teen years were reading by myself, on my porch in the rain cuddled up with a blanket and a cup of coffee. I actually generally prefer cheesy teen-fiction books (still, lol!) but I want to kick off with some ‘self-help’ books as well.

I began with The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck mainly because of the title, obviously lol! I had generally heard it was a good book & I do tend to overly care what others think to the point that I second guess every move and thought I make about myself.

I actually didn’t realize when I started this book that it would be such an atypical self-help book; not necessarily speaking about constant positivity and upliftedness but moreso bringing attention to the fact that your problems, your pains, your issues are NOT unique or greater than anyone else’s. I think this book would be a great option for anyone to read, especially if you’ve read quite a few self-help books and it seems like the narrative begins to run together; this one will DEF shake that up.

I do feel like the book started out really strong and hooked me in at the beginning; then in the middle and end it dropped off for me. I’m not sure if this is because the content at the beginning just spoke to me individually more or if I stopped playing as close attention but it did seem to drone on a bit about half way through! It was definitely good enough to still finish, though.

I actually have a notebook where I started writing quotes that mean a lot to me and I’ll post a picture of my notes as well but here are my main points!

I’d probably rate the book a 8/10 myself but definitely give it a shot if you’re looking for a new perspective to shake you up! Purchase it on Amazon here.
