My Favorite Christmas Traditions
I can without a doubt say that Christmas is my favorite holiday, (with Halloween being a close 2nd) but Christmas is so special because it’s more than just a day, it goes on for a whole month! Or if you’re Hobby Lobby, Christmas season is from June-December. On that note, I have to say I’m one of those people that does not mind at all that people and stores start decorating early for Christmas. I will totally listen to Christmas music and start setting up decorations in September. I kind of like celebrating things as long as we can, but Jon is a stickler on the timing of holidays. We can’t decorate for Halloween until October 1st, and Christmas on Dec. 1st. I don’t really understand but I guess that’s where we balance each other out, lol.
Christmas is really the only holiday that my family really has traditions for, which may be one reason why I love it so much! Every Christmas Eve we get to open one present, which is always pajamas and we get a new ornament that represents that year like graduations or achievements, or in one case a decorated police car for my brother which was probably our favorite! We also always make cookies on Christmas Eve and this year we’re starting a tradition of decorating gingerbread houses. After PJ’s and eating cookies, we all hangout and watch movies and stay the night at my mom’s house because we always wake up absurdly early to open presents (it’s always been sometime between 6-8 am.) My favorite part of Christmas, and possibly my brother and sisters as well would be opening the stockings when we get up! It’s a sock full of random surprises and you never knew what you were going to get, but they were always stuffed to the absolute brim and it’s pretty surprising that those seams lasted as long as they did (we just had to get new ones this year.) We still make my mom put together stockings for us every year (and she stubbornly does it) even though all but one of us are out of high school 🙂
I didn’t get the chance to try any of the new traditions I had this year, December ended up being the busiest month with weddings that I’ve had so far! I really wanted to have a wreath decorating party with some friends and make some hot holiday drinks but I will definitely make it a priority next year! I also love the idea of unique Advent calendars so I might have to research some for next year! I saw that a friend of ours (Sarah!) had the cutest calendar with a new pair of Harry Potter socks for everyday and I loved it!!
What are your favorite Christmas traditions or do you have any that you plan on starting?
